Dutch nationals welcomed, guaranteed safety in revolutionary areas
September 2, 2007
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today countered the "overreactive travel advisory of the Dutch foreign ministry” saying that Dutch nationals are “definitely not targets of the New People's Army (NPA) nor of mass protest actions in the Philippines." The Dutch travel advisory came in the wake of the arrest and detention of CPP founder Jose Ma. "Joema" Sison in The Netherlands. In fact, the CPP added, "Dutch nationals are welcome to come to the revolutionary areas where their safety will be fully guaranteed."
CPP spokesperson Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said "The CPP-NPA and the revolutionary forces in the Philippines make a very clear distinction between the government and the people of The Netherlands, as it does with the governments and people of the Philippines and other countries."
Rosal pointed out that "A broad spectrum of Dutch society—including democracy- and freeedom-loving people in The Netherlands, as well as fellow revolutionaries, fighters for democracy and social justice and human rights advocates all over Europe are one with the Filipino people in their outrage and protest at the political persecution, filing of trumped-up charges, Gestapo-type arrest and cruel treatment under detention of Ka Joema by the Dutch government in collusion with the Arroyo regime."
"We regard Dutch nationals as friends and not as enemies. In fact, the NDFP is working with the Dutch people in the struggle for Ka Joema’s vindication and freedom."
"We extend our invitation for the Dutch people to visit the country, see the oppression and suffering of the Filipino people and unite with them in their resistance," said Rosal.
At the same time, Rosal said, "the NPA will continue to carry out tactical offensives nationwide to punish the Arroyo regime for all its crimes against the people, including those it has committed with impunity against Jose Ma. Sison, Jonas Burgos, Leo Velasco, Karen EmpeƱo, Sherlyn Cadapan and hundreds of thousands more of victims of extrajudicial killings, abductions, torture, bombardments and forced evacuations of whole communities, and other military human rights abuses."
