CPP on Erap verdict

Arroyo extremely paranoid over Erap verdict
September 7, 2007

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today said the Arroyo regime is "exhibiting extreme paranoia" in deploying 6,000 policemen in Metro Manila for the Sandiganbayan's September 12 promulgation of its verdict on the plunder case against former Philippine president Joseph Estrada.

CPP spokesperson Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal dismissed as "baseless" the Philippine National Police's claim that the New People's Army (NPA) has plans to disrupt the planned demonstrations by Estrada supporters.

He added: "If there will be any violence on September 12, it will come from the police who have received specific instructions from MalacaƱang to apply a mailed-fist policy against all mass demonstrations."

"Gloria Arroyo morbidly fears the renewed build up of massive protests demanding her ouster, especially in the face of the revival of the Hello Garci investigations with even more damning evidence and witnesses, and the mounting opposition to the corruption-ridden broadband deal and other cases of corruption in her government," said Rosal.
